Somtimes audio routing breaks - no audio

Hi,
Sometimes when I change the routing of an audio track, I lose all audio output from that track.

  • The track is definitely playing back (the channel meter shows a level/signal).

  • However, nothing arrives at the designated destination (e.g., a Group Track).

  • After this happens, no matter how I change the routing later (e.g., back to the Stereo Out, or to a different group), the track never outputs audio anywhere again.

I can still record onto the track, but playback will not produce any audible output after this issue occurs. Performing an Audio Reset does not fix the problem. The only workaround is to manually move the audio clips to a different, newly created audio track to continue working.

On version 15.0.6?

If you duplicate the track, does the duplicate have the same issue?

I am 15.0.6 Pro on Windows.

Duplicating the track (tested today) does not solve the problem. Duplicated track is also silent.

Hello I know this problem I have same, only when I’m using Vari audio Vari audio has some specific problem, if Vari cant recognise some specific note. And if you move it, then all the sound disappears in the project.

Currently I am not using vari. I record myself singing over and over again. All Track have no processing at all. The tracks are going to a group, where I apply my vocal chain. So I can easily move the audio around. But that feels wrong at this point.

What happens without the vocal chain ? Any plug-in that could be in a ‘demo’ state in it ? I would suggest to create an equivalent group and add one after the other, the plug-ins involved and see what happens.

No demo Plugins.
Attached find a video of the behavior. First the defect track is playing (here to stereo out). nothing is played to stereo out.
then I switched to the other track and it is feeding stereo out.
Both tracks are recordes simultaniously with my UR22C and no plugins applied to anything.

Next step is I try to reproduce the error. When I am remembering right, I recorded both track (for microphone comparison), then while playing back one track I added a group (stereo) and routed the mono track to the group. From that on (all while in playback) one track died…
For that video I deletet the group an routed both back to stereo out.

I tested this with more or less the same project config : only 2 audio tracks and a group one with the same source (various noises) recorded with two different mics and, even when changing several times the routing of one or the other track while playing them back, I gave up : everything is working as expected.

I see that the Edit Channel Settings window was opened for the misbehaving track. Could you still make a screenshot of its content ?

Yes. Not every time that happen…
I currently try to reproduce, but without success. Will need some more time.
But I have a Project, where that happens. I may can strip of some tracks and upload it here?
Will try that later

Found the Mistake. Yes It was my failure.. Maybe never noticed that feature before.

Solution:
Look carfully in the inspector. in ‘direct routing’ there is the routing same as in ‘routing’
But it was disabled. When you click on the direct routing destination the color changes. And there direct routing (the output) can be disabled. I maybe accidently clicked on that direct routing (think I have it in inspector since the update to CB15).

I ran into this issue last night after removing some sends that I’d enabled on a Group track. I know I didn’t accidentally click on it, because I didn’t have the setting visible in the inspector. I suspect that Cubase toggled it, but I can’t prove it… yet.

So I just assumed that I clicked accidentally (or my cat).
But because I was working on a vocacl chain and add/removed inserts and sends… I will keep an eye on that

This solution does not work for me after much trying. I’m an experienced Cubase user (20 years +) but this has me beaten.

I have the same problem on an audio track. Direct Routing has not been disabled. Duplicate the track, same problem. Noprocessing on track, no plugins etc.

If I make a new audio track and move the audio event to that track it works perfectly.

Audio is not muted. Event is not muted. I’ve been trying to fix this for 2 weeks before seeing this thread.

VU meters show the track is playing. If I add plugs they see the sound. But nothing makes it to the stereo out bus, which it IS routed to.

Any more clues out there? The entire rest of the project works perfectly. Just this one track (now two after duplication) which resolutely refuses to sound.

Surely this has to be a bug. Never seen the like in my 2 decades on Cubase.

[Later Update - new information]

This is buggy. I just switched the Direct Routing to No Bus in the mixer for one of the faulty tracks, and the Inspector still showed it Direct Routed to Stereo Out. Though no amount of switching at either location would bring the audio back.

Definitely broken.

Perhaps a well done screenshot might give us an idea what’s going on.

Well today it is working, but only after I cycled the Mute on the Stereo Out. Muting that and then unmuting it and now it’s working properly again.
