Sound dropouts on instrument input

I have an issue with sound dropouts when playing bass or guitar connected to the instrument input on my UR22 mkII interface.

Most of the times when i strike the strings on my guitar or bass softly there is no sound at all or at the most a short sound and then it abrubtly goes quiet… , but if i hit the strings harder theres is sound?

My guitars are not broken and the chord is fine… this is definately an issue with the soundcard? Someone…?

Are you sure? Which chord are you playing? Oh, nevermind …

Have you tried to increase the buffer size?

You make no mention about software involved in your situation. That might help folks troubleshoot.
