Sound gone in Cubase after disconnecting audio interface

Hello,

I have a problem in CuBase 13 (Artist). I have a song, and I started recording on my guitar.
Additionally, I do have a few VSTs that I used in between. Anyway, as soon as I try to play my recording without the audio interface, the sound is gone, both from the guitar and the VSTs. Instead, I hear some weird low frequency thunder and a weird metronome sound every bar.

Weirdly enough this does not happen when I have songs only using VSTs.
I am using a MacBook, M3 chip, in Rosetta mode, CuBase version I already mentioned. Furthermore, the ASIO driver is set to Built-In Audio, it does not look like it is a routing problem (all set to stereo out), and the Mix-Console does not show a signal either when the problem occurs.

I would be grateful for any hint as to what might be wrong.

P.S. I still have some old recordings that I recorded on my old computer before upgrading to the new MacBook, and those work fine. This could be a hint that it is related to my new HW, but does not have to be.

Mic mode is ‘Normal’?

Hey,

thanks for the response. Yes, it is normal, i.e. standard.

But I did not use a microphone at all, just an audio interface connected with a guitar. Other are all VSTs. Not sure Mic Mode has a role in that, but yeah, wasn’t the case. Again, as soon as I plug my Audio Interface in again I can hear my song through the speakers.

It sounds rather normal to me that you won’t hear an audio output if you disconnect your audio output device. Which device do you expect to playback the audio from Cubase?

Can you maybe post a screenshot of your “Audio devices” dialog in macOS?
