Sound playback issues

I just updated to the latest version of Dorich 5.2.12.12 (whatever it is) and having lots of really annoying audio playback issues.

Anyone else going through the same frustrating thing?

Here to vent.

Taa,

I hope venting has made you feel better.

If, however, you wanted some help, you will need to describe the problem(s) you are facing. Posting a Diagnostic Report–or posting the Dorico file itself with some specific references to trouble spots–would go a long way to finding a solution.

Thanks Derrick -

Ok so my main issue is that playback isn’t working. No sound coming from my score in Doricho. Ableton and other mp3s on the desktop are working but Doricho no sound. No sound Doricho. I have just down the latest update and installed it - however when I go to CoreAudio Device Settings it says I’m still on version 5.0.0.16 -

Here are some screen shots of the update I am running.

Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Taa

Hi @Nickos_123 ,
I have no experience with Dorico on MacOS, but still…

  1. Is it possible, by any chance, some other app to take exclusive control over the Core Audio?
  • If you have another apps that use any audio resources opened, close them and be sure that only Dorico runs on your machine.
  • You could simply restart the MacBook to ensure nothing else will start, and then run Dorico.
  1. As I can see, your buffer size is set to 128 samples.
  • If the project is heavily loaded by many instruments it’s possible to get serious audi drop-outs.
  • Try to increase the Buffer Size to 512, 1024 or 2048 samples.
  1. If you have an external audio interface, then you could switch the ASIO Driver to the one that comes with the interface.

Hi @Nickos_123 ,

Yes, @Ulf is correct!
You should check if you have installed Halion Sonic SE, Groove Agent SE, Iconica Sketch (or Halion Orchestra), Olympus Choir, or if you own a copy of NotePerformer. A custom made playback template is possible solution as well.
Without the needed plugins and virtual instruments, the integrated playback templates won’t work. In other words, you won’t get sound out of Dorico.
If it’s a missing plugin related problem, then you could download the mentioned ones from the Steinberg Download Manager.
NotePerformer is a third-party plugin, so you could purchase it here:

Personally I prefer using the NotePerformer. It vastly improves the playback of Iconica Sketch. Also it’s perfect for laptops due to it’s small sized native library.
