Sound with gain set to zero

Hi,

I’m using a UR22mkII, plugged into a Mac running 10.15.6 (Catalina). My mic is an SM58 with a Cloudlifter-I in between it and the audio interface, powered by phantom power.

I find that even with the input gain set to 0, I can hear mic input over the headphones. It’s not very loud until I turn the gain up, but it is a little annoying.

Is this considered normal? If not, how would you suggest I might eliminate it?

Thanks,
-P.

What’s your “mix” knob set to? If you turn it fully to “DAW” you should only hear signal if it’s passing through the DAW, not otherwise.

It’s a gainknob, not a volumeknob, so there is always signal coming through, how much depends on the volume of the sourcesignal.
