Spacing issues in different layouts

Hi everyone,

I ì’m finishing to transcribe an old guitar tune of mine and I decided to make fingering visible only in part, not in full score, just to try and in case I would add some other instrument; I was surprised noticing that in FS layout I have overlaps that I don’t have in Part (both use default font, standard rastral size and note spacing).

I attach two pics…

Thanks for any advice…

If you do not show at least the entire staff for that system (in Engrave mode) no one can tell how compressed the staff may be in your full score.

Adding to @Derrek’s answer, what’s really important is the system fullness indicator at the right end of the system. If it’s over 100%, then you’ve got more music in that system than Dorico thinks can fit there, according to your settings, and the spacing may not look right.

Thank you @Derrek here I put two full system pics in engrave mode :+1: you can recognize full score vs part from the background color…

I also noticed while creating pics that slide in the first bar is missing even if sitting in properties panel are the same for FS and Part… (I can’t even see the slide line in engrave mode even zooming in…)

Hi @asherber , as you cane see both indicators are less than 100%….

Have you been using manual note spacing submode (in Engrave mode)? Because I can’t think of a situation where Dorico would mess with the flat, while no overfull is made…

Hi @MarcLarcher, no everything is unchanged (no red handles…); the only difference between two layouts is in vertical spacing (I’ve set Intersystem space is 11 for part and 10 for FS) but my problem is on the horizontal one…

Can you share your project file, or a cut-down version that demonstrates the issue?

What do you mean exactly?

A copy of your project that only contains the players and measures needed to show the issue. If it’s easier for you to just upload the project as is, that’s fine as well.

HI @asherber and @Derrek ,

sorry for my delay but I was a bit busy these days.

Here’s the cut-down version of my project; ‘problems’ are still there so I hope you can help me understanding.

There’s a difference in intersystem gap between FS and part but this should affect only vertical spacing, if I don’t go wrong.

Thank you for helping,

Your Layout options are different between FS and Part.

(This is why seeing the file is SO much quicker than guessing)

Thank you so much, @Janus! (and to @Derrek , @MarcLarcher and @asherber , of course) :folded_hands:

I really can’t remember when I could have changed that option but, evidently, I did… There are really so many options in Dorico to manage and I’m still trying to manage the basic ones (watching a lot of great JohnBarron’s videos is really very useful but that’s not enough until having to deal with ‘real life’ issues…).

I have a couple of other questions ready…

Best,
