I had a previous sparrow. Set up parameters in their midi setup and it worked fine. The 5x5 arrived yesterday. I can see it in midi devices. If I use the app to capture midi, it shows nothing, Using the utility MidiOx, it is generating the proper cc’s for the faders I move. The previous version was plug & play. Any idea why cubase is not getting control Data? I thought at first the unit was bad, but running MIDIOX showed me it was working.
Did you build the 5x5 in Midi Remote? Here’s the base script I created - does that help?
Sparrow_5x5.midiremote (2.9 KB)
The knobs have a default mapping to “selected track - quick controls” and I think the faders are unmapped, but you can reassign those to fit your use-case.
I just noticed it works properly in Cubase 12 Pro. Everything looks the same as my Cubase 14 Pro settings.
Thanks for responding. I didn’t build the unit. I purchased it. How do I load the utility you created after downloading?
Still don’t understand why it works flawlessly in previous versions of Cubase.
loaded script. My unit does not have knobs. When I go to Edit Midi Control Surface, I get the message No connected Midi Controllers found for this script. What’s bizare is from the Studio Setup - Midi Port Setup the Sparrow shows up as an active Midi In & Midi out Device. Again if I use the capture events screen, nothing shows. In MidiOx all data is generated.
I appreciate you trying to assist me. Very frustrating. At 4 AM.
Apologies. I didn’t mean “build the 5x5” as in “manufactured” it, I meant "build the CONFIGURATION for it inside Midi Remote.
The “quick” way would be to go into your Midi Remote tab, select the Midi Controller view (top left), and hit the Plus Button. Then use “import script.”
I recommend finding some YouTube videos on how to configure your own “custom” Midi Controllers though. I can’t speak to how your previous configuration was working; it’s my understanding that the previous versions of Midi Maker operated differently.
I had no problem loading script. Cubase says the unit is in midi port & working (active) except it lies. Thank you anyway for your suggestions. Time for my 4th cup of coffee. Might have to go back to Cubase 12 if I can’t figure this out. Take care.
Yeah, I’d take a break and review some “how to’s” - it’s pretty straight-forward once you get into it. Good luck!
Just to clarify, you mean the 3Dbuilt sparrow 5x5 that not only has 5 faders, but 5 pots above the faders? Or did they make one with just 5 faders?

What app to capture midi are you referring to?
Iirc, Sparrow sells these units based on whatever CC’s the customer specifies to the builder. The CC’s for each fader and pot are built in and not easily changeable like a lot of controllers are.
They supposedly can be changed per the builder, so are you referring to an app that can change these CCs?
This is the 5 faders w/o the 5 pots. Very easy to change cc for each fader with their web app.I have no problem assigning cc’s to each fader. Modulation, Expression, etc. This fader box works perfectly in Cubase 12. Not at all in Cubase 14 Pro. In the midi monitor it is generating the proper midi messages for each programmed fader. It show up immediately in the Midi Devices when first plugged in. The problem is that Cubase 14 does not respond at all to the fader box though midi is being sent.
Again, you’ve created a controller instance in your Midi Remote, correct?
Yes I have. It looks fine but does not acknowledge the midi being sent. Again, it works perfectly in version 12. I have just written to the company to return for a refund. They are very reputable so I don’t envision a problem.
After hours of trying. I give up.
Thank you for all your suggestions again I’m going to close this thread.
Fwiw, I have the Sparrow 5 fader 5 pots, and it has worked perfect not only with C13 but C14 too.
You dont even need to use the midi remote.
The thing I have not used is using their web app to change CCs. This is where I believed there might be some confusion. Unless the manufacturer has changed something since C13…, Im at a loss as to why its not working in C14. I might have even used Sparrow in C12. Regardless, with C14 it works perfect for me, and no midi remote required.
Thanks for the update. Yours is working like I assume mine should have. Plug and play. I had the three fader during cubase 12 and 13 and no problems at all. I will give the company a shout out about this. Again thank you for your response
