Special Paste in Dorico

“Sometimes, I find Dorico very sophisticated, but other times it seems to lack some simple features, like a more versatile ‘Paste Special’ option. For example, when I work on an item, remove the stem, and adjust the spacing, I expect to be able to paste it elsewhere with all those changes intact. Instead, I have to redo everything from scratch. Is there a way to paste all those edits without having to repeat the process? Any help would be appreciated.”

(Firstly, I want to be sure that this is you “speaking,” rather than quoting someone else?)

When I copy a note whose stem has been removed, it pastes elsewhere without the stem (as you expect), since that stem setting an attribute of the note.

If by “spacing” you mean any manual (horizontal) note spacing change you make in Engrave Mode, I would imagine that’s an attribute of position in that system and not the note itself, so I would not expect it to copy. Do you mean something else?

Question About Copying Grace Notes with Formatting

Dear [Dorico Support],

I’m wondering why it was assumed that I was quoting someone else in my previous message. I am writing to you directly and have been a professional music educator since 1985.

I’d like to create ghost or preparatory notes for my students for educational purposes. I added a grace note, removed the stem, and adjusted the horizontal spacing. However, when I try to copy this edited note to another bar, I have to redo the changes from scratch. Is this expected behavior, or is there a way to copy the note along with my formatting?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
Imad Abeidoh

No, when you copy a note, its reference to other notes is not copied.

Do you want the spacing for all grace notes to be adjusted? If so, there are Engraving Options for that.

Can you show us exactly the result you’re after? There may be another way of doing it.

NB: This is primarily a User forum, so you’re talking to other users; though the Dorico development team to read and comment when they can.

Only because your entire post appears in quotation marks “ ” and boldface on the forum website, so Judd wasn’t sure whether to address his answer to you personally.
