I’ve justed started playing around with using SL 10 Elements (as an extension inside Cubase 14) to unmix vocals from a stereo track and I’m impressed with the results. However, the unmixed layer DOES contain a bit of artifaction. Does Pro do a better job of this?
I am working on a song for which the Master has been lost, and I’m wanting to retrack the vocals with a different singer. Mind you, the unmixed track is quite serviceable as it is, since a new vocal will cover the remaining artifaction. Still, I’d upgrade to Pro if I could reasoanbly expect it can perform this type of unmixing even better.
lots to read regarding music unmixing on this sub-forum; personally, I would trial the Pro version before purchasing SL Pro for music Unmixing…for audio post, SL is a necessity IMO/E
Unmixing is a ‘black art’ and the source material makes a huge difference to the result (duh). I’ve done a lot of this stuff and you need to temper expectations. It is rare to find a track that unmixes perfectly, although I have found some that come close! I find it miraculous!
That said, the Pro version of SL had many more unmixing options ( and editing tools which might not apply to this case ) which might be applied to get a better/different result… although I wouldn’t expect it to be an order of magnitude better. However SL Pro is a great tool if you want use it regularly ( I do…)
I’d probably spend a bit of time looking a at other options too… for instance RipX often works well for me and they have a free trial period. You have nothing to lose. Different apps produce different results …
I installed the trial of SL Pro and among its additional options is “Extreme” mode for unmixing vocals from a track. The result IS better, although the stereo non-vocal track attenuates a fair amount during the portions from which the vocal has been extracted. Still, very usable and quite impressive. I’ll take your advice and try a few other apps, too. Thank you
