Spectralayers is the best corrective EQ for dialogue

Instead of endlessly automating EQ , I’m starting to simply pull up SL. For controlling resonances and harshness, and bringing up weak spots in FR due to off-axis speech and bad delivery, it is so precise and quick it is amazing.

Also absolutely great for fixing problematic reverberations and ringing.

Erase and Amplify are all we need for this, and it is easily undone/corrected without artifacts.
Keep in mind that I’m talking about localized issues. For broad strokes and general shaping, a normal EQ is better and quicker IMO (it is not easy to mimic the many EQ curves in SL).

Try it out!

Touche, brother! That said my main DAW only allows engage or bypass for VSTs and I seldom, if ever, use the native EQ.

Just getting accustomed to identifying and then approaching modifying said transforms in the spectrogram is deeply empowering. I have certainly dealt with harsh freqs on occasion with just Transfer tool, because of the percentage removal (just like Eraser)…but you know me, I don’t throw anything away.

OK, I have some of this in critical areas in my big project and will try SL for this. What I have been doing for these “head turn” moments is edit envelopes in SLP and it certainly smoothes things out.
