Speeding up Dorico load process

Dorico sometimes takes 10-20 seconds to load on my machine, and it appears to be related to all the VST libraries it is scanning.

I would be fine with Dorico not loading or scanning ANY VST libraries, as I only use MIDI for playback. Is there a way to speed up the loading process?

Off-topic: Dan, great to see you here! Our church makes frequent use of your work. I hear PraiseCharts is porting over to Dorico??

Ulf is probably the best guy to answer this. Does it make any difference if you go to Preferences → VST Plug-ins and remove the Paths?

10-20 seconds strikes me as quite a reasonable startup time. It is about the same for me and I have many VSTs.

Thanks, Dan. Yes, we migrated completely back in January. I’ve very happy overall, and honestly wouldn’t go back. Finale still has advantages (like speed and responsiveness), but overall, Dorico’s the better tool, IMO. I love the flexibility of custom Key Commands!

LOL, mducharme! Not for me. Some days, I’m opening and closing files all day long. The quicker, the better!

Why not just close the file and open the new file instead of quitting Dorico each time?

@sjanssens I was able to remove one path from another program, but apparently, the Steinberg-installed paths are non-removable. I do have all the plug-ins “blocked”, but Dorico still scans a whole bunch of them every time it opens. The only way around it is to already have one project open, and then subsequent projects open faster.

You should be able to close the project without quitting Dorico, and you should be returned to the hub without the audio engine restarting.

Actually, I had it set to NOT open the hub upon closing Dorico, since I normally open projects directly from the drive folder. I’ve changed that back to the default, and yes, that is a good solution. Thanks!
