Spitfire Chamber Strings Expression Map

Has anyone made an expression map for this library they’d be willing to share? I have tried and can’t seem to get it to work. Dorico seems to ignore the map and the only preset that will play is the last one I clicked on in the Kontakt SCS interface while making the map.

Thanks.

I think a lot of people have attempted it, myself included. It’s kind of a fool’s errand to be honest - I’ve gotten it to “work” on an individual articulation basis in isolation, but in real-world writing I find it rarely to actually work.

You can look at my last attempt here:

SF ChamberStrings (Universal) v1.doricolib.zip (2.9 KB)

Based on your description, it sounds like you might not have correctly set up the instrument. With all Spitfire products I recommend using UACC (KS) – it allows you to use a universal control change, which is why I am able to use one map for the entire library. It also allowed me to create more complex Multis for each instrument as needed, and with UACC (KS) no matter what I change on the Kontakt end, the mapping will remain consistent. You can observe how I set them up in my map in your Kontakt instruments select the wrench if I recall to switch everything to UACC (KS).

But… in spite of putting in all the work, I never use it. The volume and delay differences from technique to articulation are all over the place and became too much a headache for me to write with, personally. YMMV. Note that I hadn’t adjusted too many delay compensations within the map itself, because I kinda gave up on it after a certain point of fighting too many issues.

Bummer because after all these years it’s still a fantastic library. I am really hoping Wallander will release an NPPE for it in the future!

Thanks for the reply. I finally got a version of a rough “draft” to sort of work, but I agree with you - it seems like there are too many issues to get it to any usable form. I love this library but not really usable to me in Dorico (and I have not dived into the DAW waters yet).
