Split files to remove unused ranges

in the file - new, for duplicating montages, I’ve been testing this option referred to in the title, but for me, it just creates a duplicate montage, no change to any ranges or the clips themselves, can anyone offer a little more clarity on what is supposed to happen here?

This function modifies the audio files, not the clips themselves.

thanks PG, I will test further, can you give a clear example of an unused range?

Let’s say you have a very large audio file, and the montage has two clips that correspond to two small parts of that large audio file. We can, in that case, have a large unused range in the audio file.
