Split Keyboard in Cubase 14

I’ve tried the manual, google, forum, chatGPT and cant get this going. Basically I want MODO bass on left hand (sound only plays below middle C) and Halion organ on right hand (sound only plays above middle C). This is as far as I got:

  1. I created two instrument tracks - Bass/Halion
  2. For each I went to Routing > Button next to All MIDI Inputs, changed that to T for track > In same part selected Open Panel to get to Track Input Transformer (that took 1hr to figure out)
  3. For bass track, in input transformer I created 2 rules, one to make every note below C3 turn into Channel 1, and one to make every note above C3 Channel 16 (just to get rid of it)
  4. For Halion track I made every note below C3 turn into Channel 16, and above C3 Channel 2
  5. I then made Bass Input Channel 1, and Halion Input Channel 2

I get bass on all parts of Keyboard, and no Halion anywhere.

Any help appreciated.

OK I figured it out. Rather than deleting this post, I will leave it in case it is helpful to another.

The way I got around it is I changed the second rule on each (the one where I route to Channel 16) I changed that to FILTER rather than TRANSFORM.

Hi,

You can also do this directly in HALino Sonic.

  • Add only 1 Instrument Track (HALion Sonic).
  • Load sound A (Bass) to Slot 1.
  • Load sound B (Bass) to Slot 2.
  • In the MIDI Tab of HALion Sonic SE, set Slot 2 to Channel 1.
  • In the MIDI Tab of HALion Sonic SE, set the Low/Hi Keys to create the ranges.
  • You don’t need any Transformers anymore, everything is organised in one track only.

This is a great solution. I often just want to do this for practice/jamming and to be able to just open Halion instead of the whole DAW is terrific. Cheers!

I guess the general method for any vsti would be setting the Midi Modifiers - Range - Note limit for each track.
