Split keyboard to control two VST instrument tracks?

I’d really love to play Bohemian Cello and Violin at the same time on a split keyboard in Cubase. I find a few mentions of doing this sort of thing, but I’m not able to get this working after many evenings of effort.

So I have two VST instrument tracks. I’d like all the keys on my keyboard below middle C to trigger the cello and those above to trigger the violin.

I set up a MIDI track with no output, a send to the cello, and a send to the violin. I just wrote a large essay of all the things I’ve tried, but let me say instead that I have tried every combination I can think of using a MIDI input transformer with the “split keyboard” preset with different input channels on the tracks as well within the individual instruments. All I’ve managed to do is trigger both tracks with the same key press, or one but not the other.

Let me also say that the MIDI transformer split preset seems to do nothing when the MIDI sends are in place. Above C4 should all be channel 2, but this still triggers the instrument that’s set to channel 1. I’m really stumped here. Any advice is sincerely appreciated.

Hi,

Use the Input Transformer on both tracks, please.
Cello:

( Type is | Equal | Note | And
Value 1 (Pitch) | Bigger or Equal | C3/60)

Violin:

Value 1 (Pitch) | Less | C3/60)

Thank you very much. I wasn’t able to get this working using track input transformers (which appear to be overridden by the inputs from the sends), but I applied the same idea using MIDI Modifiers on each of the sends with the range note filters. It did the trick.

Thank you again.
