It would be easier to have 3 different parts for each desk.
(general info, the play more complicated stuff later on, why writing them in one system makes not much sense, however, they are also sometimes playing tutti, where I do not want to have 3 seperate staffs at all time in the orchestral score.)
Have you yourself ever played in a symphonic string section? A separate part per desk would not be easier, the players want to see what their colleagues are doing, and the principal may want to reassign players to different parts at their discretion. Yes it may result in more page turns overall but it’s easier for everyone.
What I’m noticing in your screenshot however is that the divisi labels (1, 2, 3) are taking up a lot of space. With a regular three-way divisi they aren’t necessary at all, this is a Dorico default that actively contradicts real-world practice. Turn them off in Layout Options.
Also, at least in the pictured excerpt the three divisis can easily share a staff. Turn on Condense divisi in layout options, then you can control locally in the part layout what the most efficient staff distribution may be.
Thanks for the tip. However condensing does not work for parts in the Layout Options. It only affects Full Scores.
Is it also possible for parts? Or would I need to copy paste it as a second voice, which would equal the same effect (but is not very efficient at that point)
