I am observing puzzling behavior regarding beam splitting when the beamed groups include rests. In 4/4, when the last note is selected and the command applied, all the notes in the groups are split as seen below. When a middle note is selected, nothing happens when the command is applied. Only if the previous rest is selected does the expected behavior occur.
3/4 is similar but sometimes the beam splits after a middle note and sometimes not. I find this particularly puzzling. A measure will split successfully without including the preceding rest, but when I restore the beam, the same measure will not split again unless I include the preceding rest.
I have tried changing several of the beam grouping options, but have seen no effect. But I haven’t tried all possibilities. I wouldn’t think that this would have an effect, since I am beaming these groups with a command.
When running “Split Beam” on the notes you highlighted, nothing happens for me. They all stay the same. Perhaps some settings you have that I cannot find at the moment?
Sorry, Michele, I wasn’t very clear (which probably explains the absence of other responses.)
I changed my settings to get what you get on initial input. Now, if I beam all four notes together with the beam together command and select the last note and apply the split beam command, the beam doesn’t break at the last note. It breaks at the third note.
If I select the third note or the second note, nothing happens when I apply the split beam command. I can only split the beam on the actual note I want by selecting the rest before it as well as the note. I find this puzzling.
