It seems that Dorico still cannot add 1 fermata to just one staff, is that correct? I’m looking to add this square fermata to this score as indicated here. I don’t think MusGlyphs offers a square fermata. Any other idea of how I could get it here using a graphical/font method?
In Library > Playing Techniques, create a new technique and set the type to Glyph.
Click on the pencil icon to edit; click the trash can to delete the default text that shows up.
Make sure you have Bravura (or your current music font) selected.
Select SMuFL and the Holds and Pauses range on the right, and then select the square fermata and click Add Glyph and OK.
Give the playing technique any name and popover text you want.
In your score, you’ll need a note there to attach the playing technique to. You can add some note and then suppress its playback in the Properties panel, and then hide the stem and notehead in Engrave mode.
Wow! Thank you so much! I will make note of this process. It wasn’t obvious by googling it or using AI. Seems strangely complex for a result so simple.
AI doesn’t seem to know much of value about Dorico.
Creating custom playing techniques is pretty common when you need to add “some symbol” to your music, and there’s a detailed section on it in the manual.
