I switched off every band in Squasher and when I compared it with “bypass”, Squasher still changes sound somehow. Why is this?
Picture as attachment to show what I have turned off.
Does anyone have an explanation for this. I am experiencing the same thing, and I’m just curious to know why. Is this a bug, or is this the way that this plugin is designed to work?
I don’t think you can assume that switching the bands off means that the plugin is doing no other processing. To ensure that the signal is unaffected, you’d need to hit the bypass button at the top left.
I’d use the analogy of hardware processors. I would never assume that switching out EQ bands or zeroing compressor controls would be the equivalent of bypass on a HW unit. It isn’t, as the signal is still affected by passing through the circuitry. To ensure no change to signal I’d flip the bypass switch.
I would take the same approach to this (or any other) plugin.
The same as some EQ shift the phase even when no boost or cut is occurring.
And this is probably what happens here since it is multi-band.
The signal is split into multiple bands which causes phase shift, and this will occur even when the “bands” are disabled.
As you can see, the crossover settings on top of the screen are still “enabled”, even though the compression modules are disabled.
