SSL UF8 working w/Dorico.... sorta!

I should be working on the arrangements I’m commissioned to do but here I am down another beautiful black hole of distraction/procrastination.

So, I’ve been able to sorta get my SSL UF8 controller to work with Dorico.

Of course Dorico is not compatible with the Logic Control/HUI protocol, so there’s no direct control to Dorico’s faders. However, if one inserts an instance of Channel Strip 2 into each track in Dorico’s mixer that you would like to control, you will be able to adjust levels, eq, compression and even route effects via your physical controller(s) and SSL 360. It works with the meter plugin on the UF1 (which I instantiated on Dorico’s master output track), and compression/EQ controls work with UC1 automatically. Again, this is just controlling the channel strip plugs, and doesn’t control anything on Dorico directly.

Muting works. Solo is wonky.

The main issue is that the track names don’t properly get communicated to the plugin mixer… and the order of tracks is dependent on the order that you instantiate the channel strip plugin on each track. …not ideal. I was hoping there would be a track name over-ride available in SSL 360 but I can’t find that.

That said, I can adjust levels with my faders. Since all the audio is going through the plugin, I’m expecting it to work correctly when I output audio. I’ll get back to you if there’s a hitch.

If anyone else out there in Dorico land has experimented with this, I’d be curious to know. Honestly would be pretty fine for my needs if I could just get the proper track names to go to the controller/plugin mixer.

Ok. Maybe I should actually get back to work… uh, the real work. :joy:

(It has been said before… Dorico is not a DAW)

oh stop the presses.. Can’t I have a little fun? I’m not complaining. I’m showing a possible workaround.

Sorry for being grumpy. I was confused by your reference to black holes.

Ok. I’ll get back to my drop two voicings. :joy:

I am able to change the order of the tracks in 360. just had to find the right place to point the mouse… now just gotta figure out if the naming thing can be addressed.
