Staccato working only as Playing Technique but not as articulation

Hi Experts, when I mark a note as staccato using the articulations section of the Notes panel, the note looks correct, with the dot, but no playing technique is assigned to it and no key switch change is produced. The Marcato and Staccatissimo articulations work just fine. However, I created an Staccato playing technique pointing to the Staccato Playback Technique and it works as expected.

Am I missing something or is it an anomaly?
Thanks in advance

When you use the address “experts” it sorta gives me pause to respond. But that functionality gets some hard daily use from all of us, so not likely to be an bug/anomaly. Can we see a screen shot of your expression map for the viola? I would check also that you do actually have the right map assigned, as things happen,

Yeah, this sounds like the expression map has a staccatisimo, but not a staccato assigned.

Attach an empty project so we can check it out.

Check your setting for this option, which appears at the end of Playback Options > Timing > Note Durations:

Thanks for your reply gdball.
Here’s the EM.

The Staccatissimo falls back to Staccato which works fine, so I don’t think the problem is in the EM, though.

Thanks Daniel,
here’s a mockup project. In this case, for the Marcato to work I had to make it fall back to Spiccato.
The Staccato playing technique I added, works. The default articulation in the Notes panel, doesn’t
I hope this makes it clearer.

And once more, John has it right! Thanks for that, I’ll know where to look next time such thing happens

Yes, @johnkprice has the solution for this.

yes, this has been a very common one which I and lots of others have brought up in the past but of course we’re always getting new users who, not surprisingly, are confused by this, although I can see the point of the feature.

Thanks everyone, I see that’s the solution although it is taking me a while to understand why
It is encouraging how many people out there are willing to put time and effort helping new users (in Dorico, long time Sibelius user). Makes me believe in human race again

nice to hear .
I was also a long time Sibelius user. There are a few things which drive me crazy in Dorico but that’s probably the case with any software and I’d never go back.
