Stacked recording not working with VST instruments?

Hi,

Cubase 12 Pro. Recording a VST instrument. Midi record mode is set on “Stacked” so I would expect that upon playback only the last take would be playing and the other would be muted. Though all lanes play together forcing me to mute ‘em manually. Could anyone shed a light? Thanks

Hi,

It works as expected on my side.

Could you attach a screenshot of your MIDI Record Modes window and how do the lanes look like after the recording, please?

Hi there Martin, here’s the screenshot. Thanks

Hi,

Did you record in Cycle? As you can see, the Stacked mode is in the Cycled MIDI Recording Only section.

Hi there Martin,

Yep, recorded in cycle mode.

When I stop recording, only the last take is played and the other are muted, as expected.

Though if I wanted to hear back a bit of each take, I used to unmute them all, then dragging a side of the bottom take would make the one next to play until the bottom one started again.

i.e. in the example attached, I would expect the take on lane 1 to mute as soon as the take on lane 2 starts (though they both play

Hi,

Only Audio Track works like this. With MIDI- and Instrument Tracks, you can layer multiple lines.

Ok, thanks.

I also have this problem. Cycle record a few lanes of midi. Last one plays as expected. Then attempt to audition another lane. Does not work consitently. sometimes clicking the lane, sometimes solo the lane, sometimes the articulation box ? at the bottom middle of the midi part in the lane. Its an annoying bug.

Hi,

Isn’t the MIDI Part muted?
