How can I copy and paste staff attached text such as stage directions and the like from a source layout to a destination layout without it replicating in the source. What I am doing is selecting and copying text in the source, going to destination layout and clicking on a note or rest and using Shift X and paste. I get the appropriate text in the destination layout but it is repeated in the source layout. I have also tried selecting and copying in the source, clicking on a note in the destination, going to Edit-Paste Special-Up or Down Arrow. This also works and does NOT replicate, seeming to be a solution. However this is wildly inconsistent and almost never behaves properly even if repeating the steps exactly. Thanking you in advance. George
If you were to use system text, you might not need to copy them at all? They would appear once in the score and each layout.
However, using staff text, if you set properties to local, you can hide text in either score or part layouts using the hide toggle.
Indeed. Right you are. What would any of us do without you? Thanks as always. George
Also, I find the easiest way to copy stuff like that is to select it and just alt-click it wherever else you want it. The only thing to be aware of is (especially with text) is toake sure you’ve pasted in the right rythmic position…

Thank you for your reply. I don’t find that this works. Could be that my source is the full score reduced and the destination is the piano vocal. Same rhythmic position but a different staff/instrument, and the piano vocal having been created after the fact, in other words not at the inception of the score.
Upload a cut down version and someone will sort you out.
I am all set with your solution of the other day Janus. The above reply today was in response to the helpful suggestion of Toaster1974. Thanks all.
It’s true that for Alt/Opt+clicking, the source and destination need to be visible in the same tab. But regular copy and paste work between tabs.
Even if the PV is created later, you could still have a layout that includes the PV along with other players. Maybe you’d never print this layout, but it might be useful for exactly this sort of thing, copying/pasting/duplicating/reducing/exploding between staves.
