I need to create a staff label layout like the attached Finale screen shot with Bb Clarinets labeled 1 and two and the Trumpets labeled 1&2 as shown. However I don’t want opposing stems when the two sections are playing together as is shown in the “Condensing Scores” section of Dorico Help. I want single stems when both Clarinet/Trumpet parts are in unison or playing the same rhythm and opposing stems only when they are playing different rhythms.
Thanks.
Whether or not condensed music shares a stem depends on the musical content - more info here:
Craig, Thanks so much for your response. Once I get this into my newly devel
oped templates I should be good to go. I can see not how to format the numbers but am still not sure where to type the 1 and the 2 in. Do I do that in Setup Mode under the Players Panel or somewhere else?
Thanks again.
Lillie,
Thanks for your continued responses. I feel like now after 2 weeks I am starting to get the hang of this very nice program. Old habits just die hard for an old-timer like me. So, the image I sent was how things turned out after importing the Music XML file into Dorico. Do I need to condense that Clarinet staff or can I get the look from the screen shot just by inputting the revised staff labels?
Dorico creates them automatically.
Lillie,
So, looking at the sample I sent, a note that Clarinet 1 and two share in common has only one stem while they share a common stem on notes where there is a divisi. I have experimented with Condensing the two Clarinet parts after exploding them but a always end up with that first note in measures 5 and six having two stems going in opposite directions. Do you know what options I should choose in Layout Options to get the result to look like the example I sent?
Thanks so much!
The condensing result depends on the musical content: if the two parts are different rhythmically, or have different dynamics, or slurs etc – then they can’t share a stem.
Their parts have to match (in everything but pitches) throughout a musical phrase in order for them to share a stem. A musical phrase is everything within a system, or between rests.
If you want further advice, please share your project as this sort of thing can rarely be determined definitively from descriptions or even screenshots.
