Staff Labels for Doubling

I would like to have a doubling instrument appear in my staff label. When I add it to “edit names” it shows up in the staff label but also shows up on an instrument change.

I have an orchestra bells player doubling on triangle. In Galley View I have one staff for Orchestra Bells and one for Triangle in the the same player.

If I make the staff label “Orchestra Bells (Triangle)” that entire text shows up at an instrument change when I want just the “Bells” name to show up.

How to achieve this? Thanks.

You could elect to use the Player Name rather than the Instrument Name.

Your Instrument Names just need to be their default and they should be labelled correctly at any instrument changes.

Does this solve your problem?

Hi @DanielMuzMurray. Thanks for the suggestion! However I cannot find the path to this screen in Layout Options > Players. I know I’m missing something simple. Can you provide me the path to this screen? Thanks!

Layout Options > Staves and Systems > Staff Labels

Thank you. I discovered that my issue was getting the second instrument label on a second line below the first. I had to go outside of Dorico to do that in Notepad then copy and paste it into the instrument name. Is there a way to do this inside Dorico?

Not directly. You can use a multiline edit control like “Other information” in Project Info as the intermediary, but it’s really the same as using Notepad.

Thanks again. Very helpful. Now another snag has popped up. On my first stave, Orch Bells and Triangle, everything works as predicted. However I have added another player group of Crash Cym, Sus Cym, and Tam-tam. Everything works as predicted except when there’s an instrument change the staff label does not change to indicate the current instrument (it does in the Orch Bells/Trgle staff). I have compared all of the settings for both player groups and they are the same. What am I missing? All help very much appreciated.

EDIT: I was wrong the staff label does not change in the Orch Bells/Tgle part. My mistake. ALL IS WELL.

Thanks to @DanielMuzMurray and @asherber for your invaluable help. All is well.
