I know this has come up a few times but I’m going round in circles with this.
This is the kind of thing I need very often - unnamed individual staves with named Staff-Groups.
I don’t want to use multi-staff instruments instead of grouped treble/bass staves if possible
I want the staff-group label to remain when just a single staff in the group is visible after Layout Options>Vertical Spacing>Staff Visibility>Hide Empty Staves
I feel like I’ve tried every permutation from Engraving Options>Staff_Labels and Layout Options > Staves and Systems and Layout Options>Players. I’ve also tried making new instruments based on the ‘sketch instruments’ for each ‘group’.
Any help in recreating the layout as below much appreciated.
It does work, in the same way that using a piano with extra staves works. I actually started this example this way and moved to individual instruments because firstly it’s such a pita working with independent voice playback and secondly adding and removing staves mid-workflow can be unwieldy (e.g. if you’ve added an extra staff above the piano you can’t later add another staff above that one - also deleting an extra staff doesn’t delete it, it just hides it and it remains in the manual staff visibility dialogue and there’s no way of telling which staff is a, b, c, d, e etc - and then you can’t move individual staves up or down etc.)
I actually want it looking just like in the screenshot, just with the individual staves not part of a multi-staff instrument (except the piano).
It seems the root of the problem is that Dorico doesn’t have the concept of a ‘staff-group-label’ or ‘bracket-label’ which can be assigned independently from the instrument.
An option to display staff labels per staff would be nice.
