Staff labels token

Hello … perhaps a newbie question (recent FINALE convert), but I can’t seem to find a solid solution. I work mostly in musical theatre where there are lots of doublings in reeds and percussion. I’d like to add a token at the top of each part which lists ONLY the instruments that are being used in that part. I’m guessing that I could simply finish the chart, and then delete all of the unused instruments in a given player, but there are often revisions throughout the process, and I’d like to keep my template in tact for when adjustments are needed. I now use the stafflabelsfull token, but I was wondering if there is a token similar to stafflabelsused or the like that I simply cannot find. Thoughts from those who do theatre often? Thanks so much for such a friendly community, by the way.

Dorico 6 has instrument list tokens.

Thanks so much for your reply. I suppose that I should be grateful for the flexibility (FINALE was all kinds of hoops for a list) … :o) … The said, I uses the tokens (in V6) and they produce the full list of available instruments for that player, as opposed to the ones called for in the particular piece. I was hopeful that for example, in REED 3, who doubles 6 instruments, and uses only 2 instruments in one piece, that only the names of the used instruments would be listed. Any other thoughts are most appreciated though …

You mean you want a per-flow instrument list, for that layout..?

Yes … but only listing the actually used instruments in that particular flow. Like I said, I could prob simply delete unused instruments, but that may cause issues down the line as adjustments need o be made.

This part only uses Tenor and Bari Sax … Just as an example …

(I’d also love for it to display the instrument without the numbers … i.e. Flute 3) FIXED THIS PART

This feature could come in handy!

A manual method to have this, taking advantage of the new Paragraph Style functionalities of D6, would be to write the text at the beginning of each flow, using a custom Paragraph Style. So you don’t have any overrides and the positioning is automatic (it needs a manual maintenance, thought). It also need a global adjusting of the Flow Heading bottom margin in Layout Options. You can then hide the text from the full score.

To avoid the automatic renumbering, you can put the players in groups (this needs possibly a manual re-bracketing in Engrave mode):

How did you do this?

It would be very useful to be able to choose if non-drum kits are labelled with the kit vs instrument names, e.g. Congas.
