Staff labels wrong in part

And if you uncheck “Hide empty Staves”, the singers appear.

TEMPLATE test.dorico (1,1 Mo)

(Updated with full names all, thanks to @jesele)

I think you want full names on all

Huh, yeah I see that too. But I need them to appear in the part layout as well. this is intended to be the piano/vocal part of the full score (which I haven’t fully built yet).

If this is what you are looking for, ot seems to work now…

I don’t understand how all of these things interact, but it seems to mainly be a combination of asking to display abbreviated names but also asking to use player names – I’m not sure that players have abbreviated names. If you uncheck all of the players under “Show player names instead of instrument names”, then you can use full names in the first system and abbreviated ones in subsequent systems.

The full score thing was a red herring – it’s just that the new layout had default settings that worked better.

Or just change the abbreviated player names:

If you change a player name by double clicking it, you only change the full name.

D’oh! Thanks, I missed that.

TBH I only knew about this because John Barron mentioned it in a webinar (I don’t remember which one but I believe it was a fairly recent one about Percussion). They’re packed with tiny helpful facts like these so I always try to watch all of them.

Also, I feel it would be better if Dorico would just directly open the Rename Player dialog when you double click a player name. If you don’t need the short name you don’t have to change it, so for the user that would not be any slower than the current behavior. But it would eliminate these situations and would make Dorico a bit more transparent.
