Staff not hiding even though it's hidden in manual staff visibility

I’m trying to have some music that’s only heard in playback but not seen in the score (essentially a mockup of what an improvised part will be like). I’ve achieved this several times before by adding a player/instrument that never actually appears in the score because it’s always hidden with manual staff visibility, but still is technically part of the file/flow and thus is part of playback. It’s worked several times for me.

Two questions:

  1. Is this the best solution for doing this?

  2. Why isn’t in working in this case (file attached below).

Elliding Image v2 - Flow 8.dorico (3.4 MB)

Note: playback may not work for anyone who downloads the file because I have stuff being sent to a virtual midi bus and then to a DAW. My main concern here is how to get that “piano for playback” staff to actually hide!

Hi @pcg1993, if you deactivate the Chord Symbols for the Piano for playback player, the manual staff visibility will take effect as expected:

not sure why you deleted @christian_r!
he had posted the totally correct answer before. for some reason, manually hiding staves doesn’t work when there are chord symbols and that player has chord symbols enabled.

I was not sure if my answer was correct…. (So I had deleted my reply). Now I rehabilitated my reply again. Glad it helped.
(But maybe the real culprit of your issue may be something else).

Yeah, it’s strange this, seems like a small bug of sorts, that chord cymbals showing should make a staff un-hideable. Weird! But anyway, your tip did solve it!

(OT. cymbals are not symbols!)
