k.k, do you want to condense Violoncello and Contrabass?
Yes,but the instruments are different. Is that possible?
Can the short instrument names be displayed as I want?
Normally you can’t condense section players.
One possibility would be to create a third sectional player, call it
Violoncello
Contrabass
and
Vc.
Cb.
and use it where you want to show it exclusively.
Hide and show the staffs manually as you need.
Having said this, there might be a more elegant way…
Dorico doesn’t condense a transposing instrument with a non‑transposing one, and technically the double bass is a transposing instrument. Celli+DB condensation has been requested here quite often, since it’s a common combination.
In the meantime, I was hoping it might be possible to use a cello divisi, but unfortunately it seems impossible to hide the player name on a condensed divisi staff (apparently it works only when it’s not condensed – someone will correct me if I’m missing something)
So I think you’ll need to create an instrument, as @k_b suggests.
