I’d like to set some standard settings like “no short instrument names in the systems” ," no flow titles ". But although I define this as default settings , Dorico ignores it. When I import a XML file , I always get flow titles and short instrument names at the beginning of every system line. Hundred times I have to take them away manually. It’s quite annoying. Why does Dorico ignore the default settings?
What are yoyr settings in Preferences >import xml files? The best advice is to leave everything unticked, especially the one about formatting (which probably overrides your default settings).
Hope it helps!
Everything is unticked, but that doesn’t help. IMO in this case Dorico should use the default settings, but unfortunately it’s not the case.
Does Dorico ignore this for New Documents, or just for XML imports?
Do you use the library manager to restore the user settings on an offending file? It’s probably the fastest way. Sorry, I have just noticed the iPad mention in the title…
I believe Dorico does not use the saved user defaults for layout options etc. when importing a MIDI or MusicXML file, neither on the desktop version nor in Dorico for iPad.
Why is Dorico not using the standard
settings? It would be a big help, if this could be implemented.
I’ve looked into this in more detail, and in fact Dorico does use the saved default options when opening a MusicXML file as a new project. However, some of the default options are overridden by the MusicXML file itself, which specifies things like page size, margins, staff size, and text fonts, etc., so Dorico gives precedence to the settings in the MusicXML file.
Thanks, but then it would be a good idea, that Dorico would have an option to ignore these XML settings like other settings in the XML score.
And I can’t imagine that the XML file has a setting for the flow subtitles. If I choose “no flow title” as default, this will be ignored. That means Dorico shows a subtitle for imported XML files, although I have disabled it in the Default settings.
There is a difference between opening an XML as a new project in Dorico and importing an XML into an existing Dorico project.
If you do the latter, then the Dorico project settings should prevail, as you want. So, create an empty project, import the XML, then delete the (now redundant) Flow1.
