Steinber Ur22 Driver Problem For OS X 11 (Big Sur)

I am a Steinberg UR22 model sound card user. I’ve been using it for years with no problems. However, after updating Big Sur on my computer, it stopped working. Even though I downloaded the latest driver, my problem was not solved. What can I do about it? I will be grateful if you could help me.

Hi berk_ozdal,

I had similar problems with my UR242 and the new driver under Big Sur. Always when I connect the UR242 I saw only a blue symbol in the Audio-MIDI-Setup. The IF works for MIDI and Audio but dspMix_UR242 does not recognize the IF.

My first try was to deinstall the driver and install it again but this doesn’t help. Then I found the an article about allowing the new driver in Big Sur in Steinberg Helpcenter:

Links are not allowed here but you just have to google for
Steinberg 115001790330

This helped on my new MacBook Pro 16" but not on my old MacBook Pro 13" (end 2013).
What helped on my old MacBook was to restart the driver in the following way:

  1. Disconnect your Audio-IF
  2. Open a terminal
  3. sudo kextunload -v /Library/Extensions/YamahaSteinbergUSBAudio.kext
  4. sudo kextload -v /Library/Extensions/YamahaSteinbergUSBAudio.kext
  5. Connect your Audio-IF

After this steps I see now the red symbol in Audio-MIDI-Setup and dspMix_UR242 works as expected.

You have to do these steps always after a reboot of your Mac again.

I hope this helps you too.
