Real quick video on Steinberg Halion vs Halion Sonic.
I guess most of you guys know the diff but just in case someone still not sure here’s a quick look at both.
I wish they’d use “Lite”, or “Basic” instead of “Sonic”.
“Sonic” means nothing to anyone and the difference between the two products is not clear. It just makes the whole image of the product blurry.
Also, everytime a user is using “Halion Lite” they are constantly reminded that there is a “more feature filled and desirable” option. Influencing future buying behviour.
But this implies that HALion Sonic is a “slimmed down” version from HALion which is not the case. HALion Sonic is not just a player or a host environment for HALion created content.
Even the free version of HALion Sonic comes with a “quadruple Retrologue” without GUI but with extended filter, arp, modulation and effect capabilities per slot!
With the suitable “Layer” content ( e.g. HALion Sonic Factory, FM Lab, World Instrument, World Percussion, …) HALion Sonic will outperform any Hardware Workstation like Korg M1, Roland D50, Kawai K4 or older Yamaha EX/Motif models.
The “Multi” chain feature for “Live” performances for example is unique to HALion Sonic
I’m with @noise on this one even after reading @Gerrit_Junge explanation.
I’ve tried to understand the differences and still get confused. I think just the OP’s question alone speaks to this confusion. There has to be a better way of laying out the differences in an easy to understand format.
It’s what’s known as “the curse of knowledge”. As humans we assume everyone has the same experience/understanding/perception as we do.
It’s the primary cause of most UI/UX and business failures.
They really should address the HALion Sonic Collection/Selection thing. Which one is the free one?
