Steinberg licensing - Deactivate a computer and reactivate the same computer later

Hi all -

This might be a @Martin.Jirsak question!

Steinberg licensing allows for two concurrent activations. These are handled by the activation manager. Currently I have my Cubase 13 license activated on my main Windows studio PC and the portable rig on my Windows laptop.

I want to try Cubase on my Mac mini as I am considering moving platforms. I was intending to deactivate the license on the laptop and activate the Mac mini instead as a temporary measure for testing. I would later deactivate the Mac Mini and reactivate the laptop when I travel. I may want to repeat the same later on.

I can’t find any clear guidance on this scenario in the licensing FAQ.

So, the big question - Is this possible - i.e. can I de-activate and re-activate licenses at will, as long as I don’t have more than 2 activated at any one time? Some software doesn’t allow re-activation on the same machine, and I want to make sure that’s not the case with Cubase 13 BEFORE I deactivate the license on the laptop.

Thanks,
dbh

Hi,

You can use up to 3 computers with one license, you are fine with your studio PC, laptop and Mac mini.

In addition to Martin’s answer: Yes, you can activate and deactivate the license on any computer at any time. The only restriction is the maximum number of three concurrent activations.

Excellent - thanks to both of you!

I imagine the same scenario would apply to Wavelab? I need to be issued a new laptop so will need to go from my old laptop with Wavelab 12 pro to the new one…so can I install Wavelab 12 pro on the new laptop…activate and test all is ok whilst still keeping my existing Wavelab 12 on my old laptop until I confirm all is ok on the new one?

Hi,

Yes. WaveLab (and all current Steinberg products) is using the new licensing system. Therefore the scenario is the same.

Yes, you can.
