Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on a new solution to bring the Steinberg MIDEX 8 back to modern Macs, specifically Apple Silicon systems running macOS Sequoia and Tahoe.
The project is already at a functional development stage. I currently have the MIDEX 8 successfully communicating with macOS through CoreMIDI, with all 8 MIDI inputs and 8 MIDI outputs available to Cubase.
So far, I have successfully tested it on Apple Silicon Macs, including M2 and M4 systems. MIDI input and output are working, including communication with external hardware instruments and VST instruments.
There is still development and testing to be done before I would consider it ready for release. In particular, I want to thoroughly verify MIDI message handling, SysEx, timing, long-term stability, hot-plug behaviour, sleep/wake behaviour and compatibility across different Apple Silicon Macs.
At this stage, I’m mainly trying to find out how many MIDEX 8 owners are still out there and would actually be interested in using their interface again on a current Mac.
If you still own a MIDEX 8 and would like to use it on macOS Sequoia or Tahoe, please reply to this thread.
It would also be useful if you could mention:
- which Mac you are using (M1/M2/M3/M4 etc.)
- your macOS version
- whether you are using Cubase or another DAW
- whether you would also be interested in MIDEX 3 support
I’m not taking orders or payments at this stage. I simply want to establish whether there is enough interest to justify developing this into a properly tested and distributable product.
Thanks!
