Steinberg Presets Crashes Cubase Instantly

Opening up the preset list on any Steinberg VST or plugin will instantly yield the spinning beach ball and I have to force quit Cubase. When I reopen it opening the presets list works fine. This is such a constant issue that I always make sure I save before browsing Cubase presets. This does not occur with any of my third party plugins like Universal, Waves, Native Instruments, PSP, Arturia, etc. Only Steinberg instruments and plugins. Once I decide on a preset then i have no problems with the project file, either saving or loading.

Oh yeah, Cubase never shuts down properly anymore. I have to force quit every time. For what its worth. Not sure if those two issues are related.

No problems with anything else in Cubase 14.0.5

I was browsing some presets today in Halion Symphonic Orchestra in C13 and it crashed my Cubase (Win10). I could still play the current presets on my midi keyboard but the program itself was frozen and the task manager said 16% cpu usage “not responding” .

Hi! Have you solved this problem? I have the same issue. I tried deleting various settings and rescanning plugins. I even rolled back the program to a previous version. But as soon as I click the arrows to scroll through the presets, Cubase dies. I can work through the main window, but it’s faster this way.

Cubase 14.0.40

Hi Vladimir:

The plugin preset issue seems to have resolved itself. Which is really confusing because I don’t know what I did other than get rid of any VST2 plugins I wasn’t using. I’m on Cubase 15.0.5 / Nuendo 14.0.40 under Mac OS Tahoe 26.1

Hi, Ted_Perlman2

I solved this problem this way. Took me a day :frowning:

Resetting MediaBay Database Settings

To reset MediaBay settings in Cubase 14 on macOS, you can recreate the database by finding and deleting the

mediabay3.db file in the /Library/Preferences/Steinberg MediaBay Server folder or in the Cubase user preferences folder, then restarting Cubase. To access the hidden user Library folder, hold down the Option key while the “Go” menu is open in Finder and select “Library.”
In my case, a system reboot was also required.
After the reboot, I disabled my favorite VSTs to be on the safe side, and after launching MediaBay and creating the database, I re-enabled them.
