Steinberg’s own factory plugins freeze, the drop-down menu doesn’t work either. There is only one thing you can do with it: move it from the Pre-fader position to the Post-fader section, or vice versa. Then at least No effect is available so that it can be discarded. Several limiters, compressors and many other functions are also dead. The machine is professional, there’s not much wrong with it…

Proved some useful information please.
It cannot be left clicked at all. Right-clicking works to move it to the Post-fader position. After that you can throw it away, menu item “No effect”… 
Do you have the Constrain Delay Compensation option turned on by chance? If so, try turning that off.
