Steinberg's Update policy that made me leave

In short terms, before you can get your awards you’re gonna be punished…
The steinberger punishment?
Maby Josef Steinberg has an answer to that?

What do you mean with “Josef”?

He wrote some books about ICT.
Sorry, i ment Joseph Steinberg.

Typical, familiar that name.

You have to learn to think simple .,
why do i have to upgrade twice ?

Loyal as without will.

You don’t have to upgrade twice. You can skip an upgrade. That’s your choice.

I have not once chosen to upgrade Nuendo because upgrading later would be ‘more money’.

If I upgrade to v15 when it comes out and it’s 200, I pay 200.
If I upgrade to v14 when it comes out and it’s 100 and then later 100 to v15 I pay 200.

See how that works out to exactly the same amount of money?

I upgrade because I can use the new v14 features, that’s why I upgrade.

Like I said, plenty of people who think only of themselves would be complaining just like you are if the situation was the way you want it to be. They would complain that they gave Steinberg more money earlier and in total than you did yet they get no more of a discount than you do. Just think about this as if you were in their shoes:

You want to get the latest versions. So you upgrade to 12, 13, 14 and 15. That’s $400. I don’t want v12-14, so I only get v15 and pay $100. Would you think it’s “fair” that you “only” get the same discount as someone who hasn’t upgraded in 3 years? That after having given Steinberg literally 400% more money you don’t “deserve” a better deal? Or do you think you ‘should’ get a deeper discount because you have been a loyal customer (because you wanted to)?

And pay the price later…

You don’t have to do that either. Still your choice.

I swear some aren’t happy until they get things for free.

Go get Avid products for a few years. That should give you some good perspective on things.

Or sit down and really consider all you can do with Cubase / Nuendo, consider what a computer costs that will take advantage of all that power, consider that you’re a human being on earth that can afford to even consider this in the first place… Then with that perspective think about the idea that you are being ‘punished’ when paying for something you probably don’t really need in the first place.

“First world problems” as they say.

They allready pay the price by crying about it…
In every software upgrade is not an update, and the system was renewed.

I am not gonna talk about other systems that where upgrade in the past, but in 2016 there was this free upgrade for windows 7 and 8 users, and the most computers that upgrade to win10 crashed very fast.

After that, because you accept that upgrade, you must download windows 10 and install it without any upgrady.
Many people lost time, data in 2016 by that MS strategy, but we are not crazy…
Now many i7 processors can not work in windows 11, and many people must buy new hardware again…

Be happy with what is good after all, and make music, that is why Steinberg build this system.
Developers are no music producers when they are writting programs, but some musicians are going to write software to, because it is great to.
everything has positive and negative, and we all pay the price.
For free: our sun is still shining…

“some” didn’t mean Gregio, it meant some people in general.

You do. Either upgrade or don’t. Use Steinberg software or pick the competition. Plenty of choices these days.

I’m not taking it personally.

Again you are taking it too personal you are not Steinberg.

I am offering you advice. You (plural) pretend you are forced to do something, that you do not have choice. You do have choice. Upgrade or don’t. Use SB software or pick the competition.

How is that me taking it personally?

Yes indeed everyone can choose and some need advice.
And the “some” that rather not pay, that is another story.

Upgrade can create errors mostly with the drivers.
If you want to go from 12 to 14, and skip 13, then you must think about the license for your product.

You can check your license and then see of you can use 14 upgrade for free, if not you can read what it cost.
So, if you have a licence of 14, for an upgrade, or for a new version, you can check if that is cheaper.

Else you can better install 14 as new software instead of an upgrade.
But, just like you said, you can make your choice the best if you have the good information.
Have a nice day.

or pick the competition?

Can you write that out in a complete sentence please?

You can pick Steinberg or Steinberg’s competition. I am not Steinberg. How is that personal for me?

You are not far away from your post you don’t need complete quotas , it is personal when you say to someone take it or leave it as if steinberg software where yours

yeah, it is a bit cloudy…
If people leave the forum here and leave Steinberg because of the update policy…
Then we can read the steinberger update policy…
If we leave after reading those policy’s is then agian your own choice
Very weird i think, but, everyone can write it down on a forum…
I just start here in this forum since arpil this year because i start using cubase 13 in march.
Succes with your choise…
If you make it a competition, then it is…
else, you do not have to make this competition…
More choices…

Do you want me to explain again why it isn’t personal, or do you just want to leave it with us disagreeing on that? Because I’ve explained at least once why it isn’t personal to me.

You are right in that it is not personal.
Because you are dealing with software, and a personal computer (PC) do not argu or feel anything… just Hz… electricity.
For us, humans, we can feel after all.
So we listen to music and look at art, etc…
Entertaining is an industry to.
