Stem direction control over cues is lost when "Omit bar rests" is on

If “Omit bar rests” is turned on/selected in Notation options->Rests->Bar rests in cues, the Force stems up/down buttons stop working (in the Cues section of Properties, those buttons are available after turning on Voice direction). I want bar rests in cues omitted and I want to control cue stem direction, both. Is there a way to achieve this–without having to turn bar rests back on and then making them invisible?

I’m not, by the way, using cues for the usual purpose, and bar rests will be harmful rather than helpful for my goal.

If I have missed some other setting that would allow both control over stem direction and bar rest omission, please tell me. Otherwise, if this is not the way Dorico is intended to work, this is a bug report; if it is the intended functionality, this is a feature request at least to make optional the ability to control cue stem direction while still omitting bar rests.

This is expected behavior.

Cues not playing nicely with removed rests

Cues are notated as if they belong to a regular up- or down-stem voice on a staff, so when no other material is present in an opposing voice, they’ll revert to being notated in the natural stem direction for their staff positions. Because you can’t actually set the stem direction for the notes in the cue independently, only set the nominal direction for the cue, I don’t think there’s much you can do. I suppose the only thing is to make the rests tiny but not remove them.

As I said in my comment following that one, I think part of the confusion is the use of the word “Force” in the options for that property.
