How do you change the default stem direction for notes on the middle line? When writing for choir I prefer that notes on the middle line have their stems down, but the default seems to be the opposite.
I think you want to check out the Engrave > Engraving Options (Shift + Cmd + E) and then ‘Notes’ where you’ll find an option for the contextual stem.
Having the stems up on the middle line for vocal parts does often help fit the lyrics closer to the stave, allowing closer vertical spacing and more music on the page.
I know, but most choral music doesn’t use it anyway.
