Stem Direction of Beamed Grace Notes in 1-Line Staves

Stem direction for flagged grace notes is correct. Stem direction for beamed groupings of grace notes flips stem direction. I cannot seem to find a setting to default these grace notes to stem up.

Does anybody have any idea what’s going on here?

Having to go in and manually flip stems after creating flams and other drum notation on one-line staves takes a significant amount of time for something that seems like it shouldn’t be default behaviour.

Is there a setting I’m missing?

As a disclaimer, this topic has been addressed before, but the thread was dead:

You can change this behaviour on the Percussion page of Engraving Options:

@Richard_Lanyon,

Thanks for your response.

The behavior I’m looking for is this:

However, the setting you mentioned, is only capable of producing these results (see all 4 variations of this settings and their results):

You would think that having ‘Default stem direction’ set to ‘Down’ and unchecking ‘Grace notes follow default stem direction’ would result in the behavior I’m expecting.

However it flips all beamed groups.

Any ideas?

That’s slightly surprising. I am not sure that this is the intended behaviour - I’ll have to log it for one of my colleagues to look at. I believe the intended behaviour if “Grace notes follow default stem direction” is off is that grace notes in single-voice situations will be stem-up (as they are on non-percussion staves).

Thank you for looking into this.

I thought that maybe I was missing a setting somewhere concerning grace notes, beyond the one in engraving options.
