Stem length changes (again)

I must admit that even after almost 10 years of using Dorico I still am occasionally confronted by behaviour I don’t understand. Here’s a rhythmic figure in 6/8 with the setting to connect beams per dotted quarter:

A

If I want to separate the third eighth group of each beat I get this:

B

I don’t understand why Dorico lengthens the third eighth by a whole space. I would expect the setting in ‘Notes/Stems/Shortened stem length for 16th and shorter’ to change this but it has no effect.

This is what I would like but I still have to do it manually:

C

I’ve tried all kinds of settings, like Ben Wigfield’s beam and stem settings, but nothing seems to take care of all contingencies. With [some of] Ben’s settings, the first eighth group corrects itself but the second doesn’t.

This option in Engraving Options>Notes>Stems>Stem shortening gives me the result on the left:

I didn’t have to change any of the other default stem length values for this. Is that what you’re after?

I can get this automatically,

with factory settings, plus these values, and setting “shorten beamed stems” as shown above.

I already have this setting for shortening beamed groups selected. Try separating the group on the 6th eighth and check what you get.
