I noticed that Cubase has stem separation itself, so I decided to try that instead of spectralayers 12, which I haven’t been happy with. I took a live gig of a band I was in, not a very good reording and set it to separate drums and the other choices there. It did a pretty good job of extracting the drums, so I dragged and had the layer converted to a track, and it played. I saved the project.
I then took the remaining layer and separated further and then saw that I had 2 sets of layers. Most had little sound despite showing waves, but guitar had mostly guitar though other sound were present. I dragged that to a layer too. It was somewhat confusing as the sound would disappear, depending on what I clicked. So I saved under a new name. In this picture, I hear both guitar (mostly) and drums.
I opened the earlier version where I only separated the drums and it still showed the track with waveforms, but I lot the sound and so I reverted to save, and then the wave disappeared and it says no editor open. I double clicked on the original track and got the layers to open underneath, but the drums are gone there too. My original idea was to see how much I could isolate the guitar solo to use vari-audio to see the notes, but when I double click, then the layers open instead. confusing.
