Stems up AND down with single-line instrument?

Hello,

I would like to write a bass drum/cymbals part in one single line, stems up for cymbals, stems down for bass drum. Originally I was going for Ex. 1 but Ex. 2 would work as well. So far I failed to achieve any of the two.

With the help of klafkid over at the German speaking forum I managed to get Ex. 3 using playing techniques, but I could not find a way to split the stem.

Does anyone have an idea how to do this?

Thanks, Andreas

I’m afraid that the “condensed notation” for percussion, i.e. Percussion kit, is only available for 5-line-staff, but I see why this could be useful. Right now, you’ll need to use the grid appearance to have the most compact layout.

Thank you for your answer.

I am afraid it is not just “could be useful”, but “is widely used”. And not just in niche applications but all over percussion notation, for example in Bärenreiter’s “Entführung” for the Bass Drum/Rute part.

Dear Dorico team, please facilitate two-voice writing in single lines as soon as possible.

Thank you very much!
