Stop re-opening previous files

For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to stop WL 12 from automatically re-opening all the audio files I had open when I last quit. I can’t find a preference that does it or anything clearly pointed that way in the manual. A little help? Thanks.

That’s just for the Startup Assistant screen, right? It is unchecked but WL still re-opens all the audio files that were open when I last quit.

In the startup assistant (the one that appears when launching WaveLab), you have to choose the big Project button then the Create Empty button. If you want this and don’t want the startup assistant, check "don’t show this dialog again’.

To get the start screen again, press Ctrl/Cmd when starting WL.

I was wondering if there is a way to get rid of Startup Assistant for good, in future Versions of Wavelab. It is causing more pain than assisting users. If this was really an assistant, this question on recently used files would not have come up on so many threads.

I remember watching a video where they say in Video games, they make scenes where the player is moving from one place to the other, either by crossing a narrow path, or through a tunnel, while behind the scenes, the game is preparing for the next level.

I think this Startup assistant is doing the same initializing audio interface. In other words, it may be assisting Wavelab to startup and not the users.

If you use the “Do not show this dialog again,” the startup assistant will no longer appear.

I know some advanced users who appreciate the startup assistant, as it allows them to quickly choose what they want to work on for the session.

WaveLab is designed to provide flexibility to its users by offering a range of choices rather than enforcing mandatory procedures.

Hi!

Open Startup Assistant and next to “Close” button
untick “Show This Dialog At WaveLab Startup”

regards S-EH

True, was sharing my thoughts about this, as many menu options are available without the assistant. Adding menu of Preferences, Project and to go to a web browser would make it identical to the existing startup assistant.

I do not have a Create Empty button on the Recent or Create tabs.

I assumed the “Do not show this again” option refers to Startup Assistant, itself, which I have unchecked. I don’t see any option related to re-opening previously open files. I have other apps that do this and it can be turned off in the Preferences area, which seems like a logical place to find it.

That Recently used files is a button and not a label. After you click on that, you have to click on do not show again.

Thanks, but your screenshot does not match mine for some reason. I don’t have that option.

That menu will pop up when you click on Show this dialogue on Wavelab Startup and reopen Wavelab.

Got it (I think)! Wow, that is arcane. PG, please consider changing how this works.

Even Melodyne has no such assistant

Another pathetic issue from WaveLab 12. If I open WaveLab with double click, then no problem, WaveLab 12 opens with no track nor assistant, ok, but If I first choose a track, such as a MP3, right mouse and select open this with WaveLab, then WaveLab opens that MP3 and other previous tracks… I’m sick of this pathetic issues.

I have a medicine for you, in the form of the following option

:flushed: God bless the wise!!! Thanks!!!

It’s strange that this option is set to default.

I don’t think it’s strange at all. It’s preferred for the dev team to present the user with the most functionality first (in this case, opening recent files) and to allow them to change it if they want to. Not to sound too critical, but the “strange” part is that you didn’t immediately recognize “opening recent files” to be a user preference setting before stating the features are “pathetic.” It was rather insulting to those guys, honestly.

Yes, you are right. Sorry about that. I just ran into an annoying bug today that was bothering me while editing files: Copy audio no longer copies markers
