In checking a recent arrangement of an opera, I stumbled upon some strange behaviour when using the mute function in the playback window. I wanted to check just the string parts so I muted the rest. Despite this, two of the vocal lines kept playing back despite their being muted. In addition, there is a staff for a bell (the opera is Donizetti’s Il Campanello) and when I muted this, it muted the string parts as well. I ended up having to abandon the mute function in the playback window altogether and simply select notes on the staves I wanted to check. Does anyone recognise this? Sorry but I can’t post the file.
Can you maybe reduce your project to something really simple. E.g. cut it down to 2 bars and then fill up with repeated whole notes, just so that we can evaluate the mute behaviour?
By the way, are you using NotePerformer for playback?
Thanks for your reply, Ulf, and sorry this took so long. I am indeed using NotePerformer. I’ve made a file which demonstrates the problem. The contents have been reduced to 8 bars of whole notes forming a C major chord. At the moment, I have the woodwinds, the brass and all the singers (soloists and choir) muted and the bell and the strings non muted. When you play the file, you can hear that besides the strings and bell, the choir also sounds despite its being muted. In addition, if I mute the bell, the strings stop playing back altogether, even though they’re not muted. I’m really curious what’s going on here.

You cannot use the Dorico mixer functions with NotePerformer unless you set the NP mixer to output on separate channels. You’d need to do it on both instances of NP.
(Open the NP mixer, click the settings button top left and it’s the bottom option)
Otherwise you mute/solo using the NP mixer directly.
Thank you, Janus.
