Hi all, this is related to the problems I was having last week. I just can’t figure out how to fix this without making the systems even smaller, and I think they’re too small now. I just don’t know any other way to make them fit on the page,
Any thoughts?
And here’s another one. The last four bars are all scrunched together.
Oh, it’s the last 4 bars of the flow. I should mention that.
OK, so when I unclick Justify final system I get
Is there a way I can move the last bar of the first system down to the last?
Hi @donaldskoog1, you can move bars to previous/next system in Engrave mode (after selecting something in it):
But I think, considering your requests, that you would need some more general advices about how (automatic) layout works in Dorico: there are many things that work together to obtain a nice result with just some global settings (and minimising the need of manual intervention: this is the strength of Dorico).
If you upload your Dorico project, we can give precise advice on what to do (and see what you have already done).
I will happily do so, but first, this is what happened when I highlighted note in the bar then pressed Move down to next system.
I tried to move the last line up and got this. The last note won’t go up and now nothing will move.
Please @donaldskoog1, trust me and what I suggested you to do: upload your Project (with a short description of your desired outcome): you have probably manual System breaks everywhere (if you switch on the Signposts, from menu View, you will see them, and can delete them), or possibly also other overrides. The fastest and less time-consuming way for everybody is to provide the Dorico project itself. Thank you.

On page 12 I want to fix the fact that it has only one system on it, and on page 6 I want to move the last bar up to the line above.
I was fixing something else and now p 6-7 look like this.
go in page 13 and delete the Frame break and the system break.
go to page 6 and delete the System break at bar 53.
Some observations (things that can be improved):
-
You have several Page overrides (Engrave mode, Ages panel, red triangles. I suggest you remove them all by right clicking on a page.
-
You used a very small Rastral size (Layout options>Page Setup) and it is all quite small (which space size would you like in the end result?),
-
You increased the Inter system gaps to 12 (Layout Options>Vertical spacings) instead of the default 10. So you don’t give Dorico the freedom to make systems a little narrower, if needed.
To give further advices I would know:
- do you want the new flow to start always as new page or can they begin in the middle of a page?
- do you want do hide empty staves, when nobody plays there? (this would save much space)
- are you done with all the music entry? (Notes, Dynamics, Tempo, Rehearsal Marks, Slurs and articulations, text, etc…). It doesn’t seem so. A very important suggestion is to take care of the layout only once you are done with music entry (it is suggested to do it in Galley view), because every new items influences the layout, and the automatic spacing.

OK ,one at a time. I deleted three different system break on that page and am back to where I started,
I’ve removed all the overrides. Nothing seems to have changed.
I made the rastral size smaller because somebody said that way I could get two systems (at least )on a page.
I’ve put the intersystem gap back at 10. Everything seems to be the same.
I removed a Frame break on page 12 and that fixed my–1 system on the page–problem.
You didn’t follow what I suggested:
(Please study the videos that I mentioned: you will find many answers. It is important to know how the system works.)
