I have copied bars 5-27 and am trying to paste it into bars 28-30. Why does pasting the passage disrupt the line breaks?

Given new material, Dorico tries to optimize the spacing. If all your lines will be the same number of measures, you can set Casting Off to 3 measures per system, or you can use SHIFT + S in Engrave mode to force a new system.
Casting off? Sounds fishy …
