Hi all,
context: cubase user since version 5, professional use.
problem: opened a project i made in C14, in C15. Everything sounds the same, as expected, but the vocal group is way off in volume and tone.
Surprised by the result i investigated. I checked:
- volume
- automation
- plugins
- source files
- master fx
- channel settings
- group settings
- fx sends
- and more
Even ran C14 and C15 alongside to find differences. There are none. Still a very audible difference in the vocal group. As a last resort i saved plugin presets and recalled them in C15, to no avail.
Looking to solve this mystery. Any help is appreciated. Cheers.
Hi,
Could you try to isolate the issue? Try if dry audio of the tracks sounds differently. Then try wet audio tracks. Then add the Group Channel (first dry, then wet). Try to find the stage, where does it start to sounds differently, please.
Hi Martin,
It’s at the source. Even the dry audio tracks hit a different level between platforms (i monitored audio levels with cubase’s own supervision plugin)
Have not tried ungrouping. Will try and report back.
Did some more testing.
Vocal tracks → stereo out → no difference
Vocal tracks → group → audible difference, with both Vocalchain engaged/bypassed
Vocal tracks → group → vocalchain instance removed → no difference
Something is up with the Vocalchain plugin. Using exactly the same settings, input and output gain, the difference in sound is incredible. And unworkable this way.
Happy to hear your thoughts.
Hi,
Would you mind sharing the VocalChain preset you are using, please?
Perfect Pop Dry Vocal.
One thing i noticed while looking up the preset, is that while the plugin settings appear the same across Cubase versions:
- In C14 the preset is perfect pop dry vocal but the vintage beefy male vocal is highlighted in the list
- In C15 the preset is perfect pop dry vocal and that one is also correctly highlighted.
- Again, the parameters in both applications all show the same values though. Confusing at best.
Hope you understand
Happy to answer more questions if needed.
Thanks,
Boy
Hi Martin,
