Hi. Has anyone else noticed their string sound being slightly ‘wah wah’. I’m using Noteperformer. Example is the beginning of this piece:

that sounds like absolutely normal NotePerformer strings. If, like many, myself included, you don’t like them, you just have to use something else. It’s possible that adjusting the vibrato level (mostly by reducing it) with CC105 might help but only within limits.
OK, thanks; just that I’ve never noticed it before and I’ve been using NotePerformer for quite a while. I’ll look at your suggestion, thanks again.

there may be something I’m just not hearing – just sounds like standard NP to me. I do in fact use NotePerformer with the Performance Engines of Cinematic Studio or the BBC SO Core (which requires NP 4.5 as you’ll likely be aware) but for full orchestra, my first choice is generally the Spitfire Symphony Orchestra. Of course everyone has their own preferences – quite a few here like to use VSL libraries as they are a bit more predictable to use with notation software and tend to a more neutral sound than the more warmly expressive of Spitfire libraries - which is why I like the latter.
I guess maybe I would describe it as an affectation in Noteperformer, which just struck me as odd in this piece. It is comforting to hear that it is not grating with you. Most of my composition is orchestral, or classical orchestral instruments, and I’ve generally been very pleased with NotePerformer till I heard this affectation, and now I can’t unhear it 
I may see if I can listen to some of Spitfire Symphony Orchestra sounds. I’m not generally taken with the VSL libraries. Most interesting to be able to discuss.
Can reproduce this in NP5. This (swell at end of note) seems to happen with long legato notes when the next legato note is on a downbeat. (aware this is not exactly what you wrote but this is a problem that also annoys me)
I don’t know what version of Noteperformer you’re using (sounds like 4) or whether you have made any changes to its default expression map. However, for me the swell disappears if I delete the slurs on the long notes. (It’s still somewhat audible on the short notes but is less annoying and a bit less unrealistic.) So a workaround might be turning off playback for your slurs.
In versions of NP prior to 5.1.2 there’s also a bug where consecutive slurs don’t phrase properly, so you could try updating. However, updating means having to deal with the NP5 solo strings so you will probably want to keep your NP4 installer around.
As far as string libraries go I have not used any myself except for the Audio Modeling free trials and the free Berlin/Spitfire orchestras (+ whatever’s in Musescore). Some mockups of string libraries with legato samples (which often have this problem) can be found elsewhere, e.g. here with user comments. You can draw your own conclusions.
I always appreciate those comparison threads. But they never move me enough to invest the money.
Many thanks Naomi for taking the time to ‘pen’ that helpful reply. Things to think about there. I’m glad you hear ‘it’ too! Were you implying that there is a problem with solo strings in NP5? There’s so much I don’t know and I’m learning all the time. It appears from my emails that I have v4.4, but I’m still looking for confirmation of that either in Dorico or elsewhere.
